“Cueing” is the key to transferring information from one person to another.
How many times have you given an indication (a “cue”) for the execution of an exercise and you have had a client respond, “Oh, now it makes sense” or “Now I feel it in a totally different way” or, my favorite, “Nobody ever told me that.”
An adequate indication, which hits the mark, can instantly cause a change. This is the magic of “cueing”.
Tactile cueing is arguably the most effective means of communication between client and instructor and the most powerful teaching tool that can be used in a studio setting.
However, the most important point is how we give tactile directions and why we give them. In fact, when we give these indications it is important to keep in mind the anatomical structure of the muscles involved in the movement.
You should touch the client following the muscle structure indicating the direction in which you want the body to react. The hands must convey the intention behind every movement.
Each movement in Pilates has objectives, therefore the tactile-anatomical indication is the most effective way to guide along the direction you want to achieve with that movement.
This course will offer teachers the information necessary to associate each Pilates exercise with a tactile signal that best suits the anatomy of the muscles involved in the movement.
The program is approved by PMA for 19 CEC.
